By fostering a collaboration between faculty, staff, and the Hoosier community for high impact student learning and for improved sustainability, IU has turned the campus into a living, learning lab. This initiative generates outcomes supported in the IU Bicentennial Strategic Plan; by providing a cost-effective, innovative way to position IU as a leader in sustainability research, learning, and operations.
This unique approach engages students and faculty to advance existing strategic sustainability goals outlined by Campus Master Plans. Through unleashing the creative and innovative capacity of students and faculty in ways that benefit the operations side of the university, students benefit by putting their knowledge and skills to work in a real world context. This work means that IU’s best and brightest faculty and students are exploring and looking to strengthen the connections between healthy ecosystems and the well-being of human communities, in Indiana and beyond.
